Throwback Thursday: High School Prom

A few weekends ago, Tall Guy and I took a road trip up to my hometown to watch my brother and his girlfriend go to prom. If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you know that I surprised my family on prom weekend last year and that my hometown takes prom very seriously. This year was no different.

And for your entertainment, a throwback to my own prom…

What was your favorite part of your high school prom?!

2013: A Year in Pictures

Disclaimer: I hate New Years. Don’t get me wrong, I love the spirit that the New Year brings and thinking about resolutions, but I hate the hype surrounding everyone’s New Years Eve plans. It’s right up there with birthdays and Valentine’s Day- everyone wants to have the perfect day/night and do something SO SUPER FUN that you’re almost always disappointed that things usually end up being so-so.

Now that that’s out of the way, I wanted to take this opportunity to look back on all of the adventures I had this past year!

I had some good times this past year. What’s your favorite memory of 2013?

So Long, Sweet Summer

I know Fall technically doesn’t start until later this month, but the chill in the air this morning sure did feel like it! Don’t get me wrong, I love Summer, but I LOVE Fall. Football, apple picking, pumpkin everything… You really can’t go wrong with Fall.

I had some pretty awesome adventures this past Summer though!

What did you do last Summer?

Surprise Surprise

I love surprises. Well, ok, I love good surprises… Like surprise birthday parties and when your dad sends you $20 in the mail along with your new AAA card…

I was going to write all about my weekend in Mass, but I got a few paragraphs in and was already bored, SO to make a long story short… I made a surprise trip home for the weekend to see my brother go to prom! He’s 17 and it was his first prom, he took this super precious little sophomore who had the good sense to wear fancy flip flops instead of heels and he looked SO ADORABLE in his tux. All together now- AWWWW.

Prom in my town is kind of a big deal. They literally roll out the red carpet for the event and parents and friends play paparazzi for a day while students promenade into the school. I promise, it’s more cute than weird… (For perspective, my brother said the promenade was the best part of the whole night.) Pictures or it didn’t happen!

This is the scene… Pretty much the whole town comes out to watch the kids walk in. Duxbury, MA.

That was their ride for the night! The school also does a “best ride” contest that gets pretty serious. People have come to prom in shopping carts, go karts, motor boats (on a trailer), you name it- these kids have thought of it. Duxbury, MA,

red carpet

There they are on the red carpet! It’s pretty similar to an awards show in that all the way down the carpet, people who know you will shout out your name and then you and your date have to pose while they take a picture… Ridiculous and fun. Duxbury, MA.

And here’s a close-up of them when they stopped in front of us! Don’t they make such a cute couple?! Awww. Duxbury, MA.

Sorry- was that too much sisterly love in one post? I just can’t help it! He’s so grown up now and I still think of him as a 12 year old! Sigh. If you have siblings, you must be able to relate!

When was the last time you surprised someone? How did it turn out? Tell me your stories in the comments!

We Are Adventurers

I know, I know- I haven’t posted in a while. In my defense, I’ve been really busy trying to figure my life out… Or whatever. Hey, I’m a twenty something! Can you really blame me?

I have a lot of different things that I want to post about, but it occurred to me that I have yet to post anything about my actual life. This is called “Adventures of a Twenty Something,” after all, so wouldn’t it be fun if I actually, you know, talked about some of my adventures? You bet! And since a picture is apparently worth a thousand words, I decided the best way to show you what I’ve been up to is put it all into (mostly instagram) pictures. Enjoy!

At the Art Museum on a beautiful Saturday night. (Philadelphia, PA)

The entrance to the “American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition” exhibit at the National Constitution Center. Yay for free museum days! (Philadelphia, PA)

Waiting in line (at 11 am on a Sunday, no less) to get a glass of Russian River’s Pliny the Younger (read: delicious craft beer that’s super hard to get in Philly). Unfortunately the keg kicked with about a dozen people in line ahead of us. Rude! (Bishop’s Collar, Philadelphia, PA)

My beautiful kitty, Luna! Don’t worry, folks, I promise I’ll keep my cat pictures to a minimum.

There was a MOUSE in MY ROOM! Until 3 o’clock in the morning. On a weekday. Picture it: Two twenty something girls, standing on stools inside a trader joe’s bag barricade, attempting to move a dresser far enough away from a wall so that my cat could get plenty of room to hunt this tiny mouse, all the while said mouse, whom we affectionately named David Blaine, is hiding between the dresser and the wall, at least a foot above the ground. Good times! (That’s the mouse’s shadow, if you couldn’t tell.)

View from the top of the Art Museum steps. Yes people, the exact ones Rocky ran up. (Philadelphia, PA)

I love baking! This is a homemade chocolate cream pie I made as part of a trade for a guitar lesson from a friend. (It was delicious… And the lesson was pretty great, too.)

We had a preeetty big clog in our drains that just kept building until finally our maintenance came to take care of it. Yum.

Some of the most delicious sushi I’ve ever had. It’s called a Sexy Girl Roll. Actual Yum. (Machi Sushi, Philadelphia, PA)

Funny banana stickers are a great way to brighten an otherwise boring work day!

Finally saw one of my favorite musicians live… Tristan Prettyman! And even though she’ll most likely never see this post, I have to make a shout out to her. She put me +1 on the list for her show and I owe her a HUGE thank you! Her show was AMAZING, as expected. (World Cafe Live, Philadelphia, PA)
